A thoughtful blend of style, function and personality.
Located in the heart of North Bristol, this family home underwent a full renovation with the kitchen at its centre. The brief was to open up the layout and create a multi-functional space that felt generous, cohesive, and calm, somewhere to cook, entertain, and unwind. From the outset, the vision was clear: a kitchen that balanced clean, modern lines with warmth and character. Working closely with the client, a creative professional with a background in music, we shaped a space that’s both practical and expressive, where materials, layout, and light all work together to elevate the everyday.
The Material Story
The material palette was key to creating mood and atmosphere. FENIX fronts in Verde Brac bring richness and depth, paired with HPL Himalayan, a robust, easy-care laminate chosen for its soft tone and subtle warmth. Together, they offer a practical and visually balanced contrast. A Neolith terrazzo-style compressed surface worktop adds texture and movement, tying together the island, prep areas, and pantry. 25mm V-groove Natural Oak wall units introduce a layer of tactility and help connect the space to the oak-lined architectural detailing throughout. These material choices are deliberate and grounded, each one working to add depth, durability, and cohesion without visual noise.
The Framed View
A defining feature of the project is the bespoke window seat. Framed in Natural Oak timber veneer to match the kitchen fronts, it offers a moment of calm, a place to sit with a coffee and look out to the garden. Designed to integrate seamlessly into the kitchen, it also doubles as additional storage, with push-to-open doors that keep the aesthetic clean and uninterrupted. This detail captures the heart of the project: design that’s not only beautiful, but deeply considered in how it serves daily life.
A Pantry That Belongs
Another standout element is the corner pantry built using a Howdens corner cabinet. Tucked into a corner, it was designed to maximise storage without compromising flow. Lined inside and out in FENIX Verde Brac with oak edging, and fitted with internal LED lighting, the pantry feels cohesive with the rest of the kitchen while offering a moment of discovery. The terrazzo worktop continues inside, ensuring the visual language is consistent throughout the space.
Craft in the Details
Elsewhere, refinement is found in the details: hidden scallop handles beneath wall units for an uninterrupted surface line, and Proper Copper Design copper pulls on the floor cabinetry for a pop of material contrast. Even the architecture of the space is considered. The extension, built by JAS Building Services, features Midnight composite slatted cladding from Ecoscape
We absolutely love the outcome of the kitchen; it is everything that the designs promised and that we hoped we would achieve.
