The Gloucestershire House

Positioned within a light-filled summer room at the rear of this Gloucestershire home, this kitchen was designed as the social heart of family life. Opening directly onto the terrace and pool through large bifold doors, the space effortlessly connects indoors and out, creating the perfect setting for everyday living, relaxed weekends and long summer evenings with friends.

Alongside the main kitchen, we also made cabinetry for the utility room and downstairs cloakroom, bringing a consistent level of craftsmanship and carefully considered detailing throughout the home.

The design balances warmth and contrast through a carefully selected mix of materials. White Tint Oak Timber Veneer forms the main run of cabinetry, paired with FENIX® Beige Arizona on the generous central island to create a soft, understated focal point. Framing the space, the Smoked Oak Timber Veneer tall cabinets introduce depth and richness, anchoring the room without overwhelming its light, open character.

Finished with Mont Blanc by Neolith worktops and Plank Hardware handles, the palette feels timeless, tactile and perfectly suited to contemporary family living.

At the centre of the room sits an oversized island that naturally draws everyone together. Whether preparing meals, enjoying breakfast, helping with homework or entertaining guests, it provides generous workspace alongside relaxed seating that encourages people to linger.

Rather than filling every wall with cabinetry, a continuous open shelf stretches across the rear elevation. Displaying everyday ceramics, plants and collected objects, it softens the architecture and keeps the room feeling open and inviting, allowing the vaulted ceiling and abundance of natural light to take centre stage.

With the bifold doors fully opened, the kitchen extends naturally onto the terrace and swimming pool beyond. The neutral material palette reflects the surrounding landscape, while the large openings blur the boundary between inside and out, making the kitchen feel just as much a part of outdoor life as the garden itself.

It’s a space designed to adapt throughout the seasons, equally suited to quiet family mornings as it is to entertaining larger groups during the warmer months.
