A warm and eclectic light-filled family kitchen in Brislington, Bristol.
Stephan and Regina’s Edwardian terrace has been thoughtfully opened up to create a calm, practical kitchen for their growing family. When we visited for the shoot, their newborn was snoozing in the next room – a reminder that this space needed to work effortlessly for everyday life, while still feeling like somewhere they could proudly welcome their friends and family. The result is an intentional kitchen that’s elegant and modern, without losing the sense of cosiness that all busy family kitchens should radiate.
The couple opted for a self-install using HUSK’s custom handmade fronts on IKEA cabinetry. It offered them the balance of craft, quality and flexibility they were after – allowing them to invest where it mattered, and save where they could.
We loved working with Husk on this kitchen. We went into the showroom without a clear vision of what we wanted but after speaking through options with Freya, we felt inspired. The workshop team were also great and their patient support for a couple of rookies installing their first kitchen was much appreciated.
A Simple & Spacious Layout
Knocking through from the old dining room to form a large L-shaped kitchen-diner transformed the ground floor into an airy, flowing space that is beautifully drenched in natural light. The open-plan layout frames views out to a delightful garden, while a clean run of cabinets paired with a considered island creates a naturally sociable gathering space.
Integrated appliances keep the room feeling calm and uncluttered. The couple opted to position their induction hob on the central island – perfectly positioned for cooking while chatting to guests or keeping an eye on family life unfolding around them.
Smart & Hardworking Storage
With their young and growing family, smart storage was a top priority for our clients. Deep drawers keep spices and everyday essentials close to hand, while the island is designed with cabinetry on both sides to maximise capacity. By skipping island seating, they gained the space they needed without compromising the sense of openness.
Eclectic Details Bring Warmth and Character
Stephan and Regina’s warm, eclectic style brings real soul to their kitchen. Open shelving holds personal objects and practical bits, exposed red RSJ beams add a playful industrial note, and lived-in touches like family magnets, notes and collected pieces give the space such a warm and welcoming personality.
For materials, they opted for Timber Veneer Smoked Oak fronts on the main run, paired with practical FENIX® Beige Luxor for the island. Neolith worktops, used both on the island and around the sink with a matching backsplash, add a sense of gentle refinement and continuity. The softened monochrome palette has a textural quality that feels gentle and inviting.
Every detail of this kitchen feels considered, harmonious and confident – just right for a young, busy family building their home together.
We are so happy with the results. The space is a pleasure to cook in which is important for us as passionate foodies with a growing family. The layout and aesthetic create a pleasant atmosphere for everything from daily life to special occasions.
