    • How does the concept of HUSK work? Read more

HUSK offers a simple and affordable way to add custom elements to your kitchen. All fronts and worktops on our website are designed to work with IKEA cabinets, but we also supply fronts for Howdens carcasses. All our fronts are built right here in the heart of Bristol in our onsite workshop by our experienced makers.

    • What are the first steps of planning my new kitchen? Read more

We suggest you book an appointment with one of your local IKEA or Howdens kitchen planners. The staff are very knowledgeable and will help you create a kitchen layout that will work for you. After you have planned your layout with Ikea or Howdens, you can book an appointment to come into our HUSK showroom here in Bristol, where we can talk through what options we have available and show you samples of our doors, worktops and finishes. Alternatively you can plan your kitchen yourself on the IKEA 3D Kitchen Planner. You can find a link for this here. If planning a kitchen isn’t your thing, we also offer several planning and design services. See here for more information.

    • Do I order the IKEA or Howdens units myself? Read more

Yes, once you’re happy with the design of your kitchen you should place your order through IKEA either online or in store or with Howdens through your tradesman. Don’t forget to remove the doors, drawer fronts, cover panels and plinths from your order! You will order these from us. Tip: If you have used the IKEA 3D Kitchen Planner, you can create an Item List based on your design. We suggest that you use the list of doors, drawer fronts, cover panels and plinths to make out your HUSK order. These can then be removed from your bag before ordering, and this will help us sense check your order.

    • What material are the fronts made of? Read more

Our Fenix fronts are made from 18mm solid birch ply and then laminated in 1mm Fenix on both the front and back of the door. We also offer an exposed ply front which is sanded and lacquered to offer a smooth and durable finish, although this offering is not as durable as our Fenix range.

    • Does HUSK supply hinges and drawer runners? Read more

We don’t supply hinges or drawer runners. IKEA or Howdens will advise which hinges and drawer runners you will need and will add these to your order. All of our fronts are designed to work with the hinges and slides provided by IKEA or Howdens.

If you already have an IKEA kitchen and want to check whether it is Metod or Faktum you can tell by looking inside the cabinets. Metod cabinets will have two rows of drilled holes, whereas Faktum cabinets will only have one row. The Faktum range has been discontinued at IKEA, the only range available from them now is the Metod.

    • Does HUSK made fronts for other cabinets? Read more

    • Do you pre-drill the fronts for handles? Read more

The fronts are not pre-drilled. By drilling the holes yourself you have the flexibility to use any handles you like, and mount them where you think looks best. When you come to drill your handle holes we suggest that you place a piece of scrap wood behind the front as you drill, this will minimise tear out. The fronts shouldn’t be a problem to drill through

    • How thick are HUSK doors and drawers? Read more

Our doors are 20mm thick. They are a little thicker than the IKEA and Howdens doors so make sure that you allow for this when ordering your worktop. We make them this thick to make sure they stay flat and look good for years to come.

    • How thick are HUSK cover panels? Read more

Just like our doors, the cover panels are 20mm thick. This not only helps to make sure that they stay flat, but also gives enough depth to screw them to the cabinet.

    • Do HUSK fronts fit integrated appliances? Read more

We can only guarantee that our fronts will work with the IKEA range of integrated appliances. However, as most integrated appliances are based on standard cabinet sizes our fronts should work. Please refer to the appliance manufacturer’s installation guidelines. We supply appliance fronts with no hinge locations to ensure the best fit for your appliance.

    • How do I mount HUSK fronts? Read more

For IKEA, as our fronts are designed to work with the Metod system, you can follow the instructions that are provided with your IKEA products. Alternatively you could arrange an installation through your builder. If you’re having trouble at any stage of the fitting process then please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to offer further advice.

    • How do I mount HUSK plinths? Read more

You will need to buy the Metod legs which attach to the bottom of the cabinets. The legs are provided with clips that snap onto the legs. These clips should be screwed onto the back of your plinth, which you can then push onto the legs. If you need to create a corner in your plinth we suggest that the best option is to create a mitre joint.

    • How do I mount HUSK cover panels? Read more

Start by aligning the cover panel with the cabinet. We suggest that you leave the cover panel overhanging the cabinet so that it lines up with your new HUSK doors. Use clamps to hold the cover panel in position (making sure you protect your side panel). If you need to cut the panel you can mark it now and remove it before cutting to size. We suggest that you mark and cut from the top of the cover panel, this way the cut edge will be concealed by your worktop. With your cover panel the correct size you can align it to your cabinet, and clamp in position once again. Next we suggest you use a drill to bore a small pilot hole through the carcass side and into the cover panel – make sure you don’t go all the way through the cover panel! Finally use pan head screws to secure the cover panel.

    • How should I care for my HUSK fronts? Read more

For any of our Fenix fronts range, you can download the care instructions for this here. Fenix is a smart material and has thermal healing properties, this means that small scratches can be healed by slightly heating the surface. This should be carried out by rubbing the affected area with a magic sponge, there is one included in the care & maintenance kit which you can purchase directly though HUSK.

For our timber fronts, we recommend cleaning the fronts with warm soapy water immediately after a spillage to avoid permanent staining to the wood, although the lacquer will protect the timber for light spills and general ware and tare.
