The St George Kitchen

Completed as part of a side-return extension in Bristol’s St George, this kitchen combines IKEA cabinetry with HUSK fronts and bespoke detailing to create a space that feels calm, contemporary and full of personality. Clean architectural lines are softened with natural materials, playful colour accents and carefully considered storage, while a bold yellow structural beam brings an unexpected focal point that gives the kitchen its own unique identity.

Built around IKEA cabinets, the kitchen pairs FENIX Bianco Male fronts with contrasting Grigio Aragona cabinetry to the island, while quarter-cut Oak veneer introduces warmth through the bespoke island bookcase. Exposed plywood edges and integrated scallop handles give the cabinetry a distinctive handcrafted feel, complemented by crisp Neolith Just White worktops.

Several bespoke elements were designed specifically for the space, including a custom upper cabinet, open bookcase and a carefully detailed cover panel, precisely cut around the home’s striking yellow beam. Rather than concealing this structural feature, the cabinetry was designed to celebrate it, turning a practical constraint into one of the kitchen’s defining design details.

At the centre of the room sits a generous island that does far more than provide additional workspace. Deep drawers keep cookware and utensils neatly organised, while an integrated Vauth-Sagel pull-out bin makes everyday clean up effortless. The oak-lined open bookcase softens the island’s darker finish, displaying cookbooks and favourite objects to give the kitchen a more furniture-like feel.

The colourful breakfast stools by Woodmancote Retro invite family and friends to gather around the island from every side, making it as much a place to socialise as it is to cook. Together with the open-plan layout, the island has become the natural heart of the home.
