This Bristol kitchen is a fresh and minimal haven for a family of five.
A modest space, transformed with quiet confidence. This family kitchen was designed for our clients seeking a functional, sociable room with plenty of hidden storage. Set within a narrow footprint, the simple layout prioritises easy movement and functionality, demonstrating how bespoke cabinetry can make even smaller spaces feel open and effortless. The result is calm and airy, but bold in its design.
The kitchen island is both the heart and the anchor of the kitchen – a place for gathering and preparing meals together.
Six spacious drawers are integrated on the working side, ensuring storage is abundant while surfaces remain clear.
The island back panel features hand-stitched veneer, crafted as a single seamless piece to avoid a join, a detail that reflects the care and precision of the design.
At the far end of the kitchen, large glazed sliding doors open onto a walled courtyard garden.
Framed by olive trees, the view floods the room with warmth and greenery, blurring the line between inside and out. It softens the minimal lines of the cabinetry, bringing a touch of rustic Tuscan charm into the soul of this modern kitchen.
One of the trickier parts of the design was working with the narrow space and fitting in an island to double up as both dining and prep space. It worked out really well by keeping all the utilities on the main run.
Every inch of the kitchen has been designed to work hard without feeling crowded.
Precision-made cabinetry lines a single bespoke wall, fitted edge-to-edge to maximise every inch. On the far right, a full-height block neatly houses, from left to right: oven, grill and proving drawer; a bespoke larder; and an integrated fridge-freezer. Placing everything in one clean line keeps the design simple, contained, and visually uncluttered.
All storage is hidden behind doors and drawers, with no open shelving or visual noise to interrupt the calm, minimalist lines. Base unit drawers make efficient use of the space, while overhead cabinets in natural oak veneer lighten the room, and the earthy terracotta shade of the base units grounds the design.
A standout feature of this kitchen is the fully bespoke larder, designed to keep daily essentials neatly out of sight.
Electrical appliances, herbs, spices, and ambient items are all tucked away behind its doors, leaving the countertops clear for cooking and preparation.
Its placement within the full-height cabinetry run ensures that everything stays contained and accessible, maintaining the kitchen’s clean, minimal aesthetic. Thoughtfully designed compartments and shelving make it easy to organise and reach everything you need.
Built-in kitchen appliances maximise countertop space and maintain an uncluttered environment that feels effortlessly tidy and easy to live with.
An integrated hot water tap above the sink helps to make the most of limited worktop space by removing the need for a kettle.
Venting the kitchen without impacting the design was a real challenge. We solved it by concealing a Neff extractor fan in the overhead units, building in discreet voids at the top of the cabinets for ventilation – tricky, but it worked seamlessly.
Layers of natural and artificial light work together to keep the room bright, balanced, and adaptable.
Daylight floods the space through the garden, complemented by warm dimmable LED strips discreetly hidden beneath the wall units. Flush ceiling lights add brightness on darker days, while three minimal pendant lights hover gracefully above the island, marking it as the central gathering point.
Chosen for both practicality and sustainability, the material palette creates a scheme that is fresh, resilient, and enduring.
The terracotta warmth of FENIX® Rosso Namib grounds the space with colour and character, while its anti-fingerprint, scratch-resistant surface makes it as practical as it is beautiful.
Natural Oak Timber Veneer elements introduce a softness that balances the bold impact of the base units.
Neolith Everest Sunrise worktop surfaces add durability and refinement, made from 100% natural materials in a carbon-neutral process.
The finishes really make the space. The use of Rosso Namib with the oak brings so much warmth, while the subtle pink veining in the marble adds depth to the FENIX. The oak inlay handles are a really beautiful touch too.
Every design choice has been pared back to what matters most: simplicity, functional ease and quiet beauty.
The bold FENIX® Rosso Namib fronts act as a “pop of red,” a bold yet refined statement within an otherwise minimal palette.
Our integrated scalloped handles with oak inlay preserve the kitchen’s clean lines while keeping the space practical for daily flow by ensuring nothing protrudes into the walkway.
Paired with the sense of enclosure from the walled garden, the kitchen feels safe, warm, and inviting – a modern sanctuary in the heart of Bristol.
