A balanced blend of utility and character in South East London
Tucked within the Lewisham Park Conservation Area of south east London, this reimagined galley kitchen is part of a wider renovation in a light-filled Edwardian conversion. With its leafy outlook and rich architectural history, originally developed as a genteel 19th-century retreat for London’s merchants, the kitchen was designed to bridge heritage and contemporary living through materiality, craft, and thoughtful design.
At HUSK, we create kitchens that are as hardworking as they are beautiful. For this home, a creative couple, an artist and a designer, came to us with a clear vision: a practical, refined space that respected the period features of their home while feeling calm, clean, and contemporary.
A Space for Making
Galley kitchens are often underestimated, but here the layout has been carefully optimised for flow, light, and everyday use. Howdens cabinets form a solid structural foundation, overlaid with our bespoke HUSK X Another Country fronts in Mist Green. These base units bring a quiet sense of connection to the park beyond, with a rich green tone that shifts with the light and anchors the room in nature.
For the wall units, the clients took a creative approach: they chose our untreated Another Country cupboards and hand-painted them to match the surrounding wall colour. This creates a soft visual blend that draws the eye upward and adds a sense of height and openness to the room. The result is uplifting, harmonious, and entirely unique to the space.
All doors from our Another Country x HUSK collection are crafted using ash veneer and finished in a water-based, solvent-free paint – making them easy to touch up and refresh over time. It’s a durable, eco-conscious choice that supports longevity without compromising on finish.
HUSK X Another Country Solid oak knobs and Oak Pullbars complete the look, adding natural tactility and warmth. These details wear beautifully with age, designed to develop character through use.
Utility, Refined
A stainless steel worktop by MPM Engineering delivers professional-grade functionality, with a satin finish that softens light reflections and offers a subtle texture underhand. It’s a surface made for real cooking – easy to clean, resistant to wear, and built to last.
Lighting has been deliberately pared back to let materials shine. Sleek round wall lights offer practical task lighting and a minimal, modern edge that complements the overall palette.
We are really enjoying the combination of the Mist Green Husk fronts and the stainless steel worktop, how the light is reflected and the materials somehow connect with the park outside. Practically speaking our new kitchen has transformed our day-to-day cooking experience, making even the cleaning up a pleasure!
