At HUSK, we love collaborating with like-minded designers who share our passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces. Recently, we had the pleasure of working with Grace from Studio Rey on The Brockley Kitchen, a warm and playful space that perfectly reflected the homeowners’ personality.
The project featured natural oak and primed MDF fronts, which were painted on-site in a bold blue, bringing life and energy to the kitchen. Bespoke elements like the fully customised breakfast larder and beach seating made the most of the available space, adding both functionality and charm.
After the project wrapped, we invited Grace to our Bristol workshop for a tour and a cuppa with our designers, Freya and Georgia. In a fun twist, it turns out that Georgia and Grace went to school together in Gloucestershire and have remained friends ever since!
During the visit, our team caught up with Grace, and Freya and Georgia took the opportunity to dive into a Q&A session
Here’s what Grace had to share:
Tell us about Studio Rey!
“I set up Studio Rey in 2020, and since then, I’ve worked on a wide range of home interiors and some small-scale commercial projects in Bristol and throughout the south-west.”
Do you have any kitchen design tips?
“I think it can be tempting when you first move into a new home to make the space your own as soon as possible. But I always encourage clients to live in the space, especially the kitchen, and carefully consider what is and isn’t working for them. That way, we can create a kitchen that they truly love and that works perfectly for their needs.”
What is your favourite homeware brand?
“I always enjoy a trip to Prior Shop. I think it’s refreshing to see so many brilliant local makers rather than just your typical homeware brands.”
Tell us why you love Bristol.
“I love working and living in Bristol. It’s such a community-focused city with plenty of creativity. I grew up nearby, so it’s great to be close to family and friends. Plus, I love being able to easily get out to the countryside and the coast—it’s the best of both worlds.”
What’s your favourite HUSK sample?
“The walnut V-groove is my favourite at the moment. I love that you can customise the width between the grooves—it’s such a great feature! I also love the new collaboration with Another Country; the finishes and bespoke handles are beautiful, and they have such lovely detailing up close.”
Why do you like working with us?
“I love working with HUSK because they’re a local business, and I can always pop in to see new samples. I feel really well looked after by the team. We’ve built a great working relationship, and I’m excited about the future projects we’ll work on together.”
The Brockley kitchen was a dream project to work on! My client was really open to colour so we had fun with the bold blue cabinetry, mosaic tiles and playful patterned fabrics. The oak fronts and neolith worktop bring so much warmth and texture. My client has said he now spends so much time in the space and it is the heart of the home!
Why Work with an Interior Designer?
We understand that designing and planning a kitchen can feel overwhelming, with countless decisions to make about layout, materials, finishes, and functionality. That’s why having an experienced interior designer by your side can be invaluable. They bring expertise, creativity, and a fresh perspective to the process, ensuring your kitchen is not only functional but also a beautiful reflection of your personal style.
At HUSK, we pride ourselves on working closely with interior designers to make the journey as seamless and enjoyable as possible. Whether it’s a bespoke project like The Brockley Kitchen, which required tailored solutions and innovative thinking, or a more streamlined design that balances simplicity with elegance, we’re always excited to collaborate.
Our approach is rooted in understanding the unique needs and vision of each client. By partnering with talented interior designers, we ensure every detail is thoughtfully considered—from maximising storage and enhancing workflow to selecting finishes that elevate the space. Together, we create kitchens that are as practical as they are stunning, delivering spaces that clients can truly enjoy for years to come.
