Perched on a hill in Northern Somerset, Orchard House is a visionary Passivhaus project that marries East Asian design sensibilities with Scandinavian minimalism.
At the heart of this organic and refined space is the kitchen, where HUSK’s bespoke design meets high-quality materials to create a sophisticated yet functional living area. Working closely with the client, HUSK was tasked with curating a kitchen that integrates seamlessly into the home’s sustainable ethos while offering a design that is both timeless and versatile.
Custom Details and Functional Design
HUSK’s Kitchen Design Team chose Oak Veneer on Plywood for the fronts, a material that brings natural warmth to the kitchen while maintaining a sleek, modern aesthetic. The richness of the oak pairs beautifully with the soft tones of the Avon Marble Unistone Tartufo worktops, which offer a durable, earthy contrast to the wood’s grain. This material selection not only highlights the beauty of organic textures but also ensures the kitchen stands up to daily use without compromising on style.
Emphasising bespoke craftsmanship, the client worked with HUSK’s designers to incorporate custom elements within their Howdens system, including a dedicated wine rack and bespoke shelving. These thoughtful additions elevate the functionality of the space while maintaining a streamlined look. Handmade by the client, the unique handles add a personal touch, further enhancing the kitchen’s bespoke nature.
A Perfect Harmony of Sustainability and Style
The Orchard House Kitchen captures the essence of contemporary design rooted in sustainability. The integration of custom elements within a high-quality, pre-existing framework demonstrates how bespoke solutions can transform an otherwise standard system into a personalised, functional masterpiece. The result is a kitchen that not only serves as the heart of the home but also exemplifies a thoughtful approach to both design and living.
