Nestled within a 1960s townhouse in South East London, the Forest Hill Kitchen was a thoughtfully curated design by our in-house kitchen designer, Freya. Tasked with creating a modern space that remained sensitive to the mid-century character of the property, warm tones and contemporary finishes were balanced to achieve a cohesive and timeless look.
The design not only respected the mid-century roots of the home but also brought it into the 21st century with a carefully curated blend of textures, tones, and modern functionality. The result is a space that feels effortlessly stylish while remaining practical for everyday use.
A Warm and Textured Palette
The foundation of the design was the warm and inviting Giallo Kashmir FENIX fronts, paired with exposed ply edges that celebrated the natural beauty of the materials. This was complemented by textured fronts, adding depth and interest while introducing a contemporary twist to the space. The subtle matte finish of the Dekton Sirroco worktop, with its soft veining and durable surface, tied the overall scheme together beautifully, providing both functionality and elegance.
To maintain the kitchen’s seamless aesthetic, Freya selected sleek black fixtures and fittings. A Franke SID Black Single Tectonite Sink paired with a Quooker Fusion Round Tap in black offered a streamlined, modern look, while Dowsing & Reynolds Modernist knobs and Knurled closet bar handles in black provided refined details that echoed the era of the home.
Lighting played a pivotal role in the design, enhancing the warmth of the materials and the mid-century atmosphere. The Menu TR Bulb Pendant lights were chosen for their minimalist aesthetic and soft glow, creating a welcoming ambiance while complementing the clean lines of the kitchen.
